I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine

About Christian Marriages

We learn the most about Christian marriages when we seek God’s design instead of our ideas. Couples often consider happiness the primary motive for marriage. They think how someone makes them feel to justify their reasons for a relationship. These feelings can be new, beautiful, and exciting but many marriages crumble when these feelings begin to fade.

The reality is that marriage provides many happy moments and equally challenging moments for each couple. You age, economic status, how long you dated or didn’t date won’t offer you any guarantees from hardship. When humans cohabitate, there is always going to be misunderstandings, growth, unexpected trials, and frustrating expectations. Just consider the traditional vows,

“I, ___, take thee, ___, to be my wedded husband/wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God’s holy ordinance; and thereto I pledge myself to you.”

When couples commit to marriage, they are embarking on an unknown voyage. Often they commit to arriving at their destination with little to no preparation. No matter who you are or how many anniversaries you’ve celebrated, there are storms in life that can leave your marriage shipwrecked. It is essential to anchor yourself in the Word of God to avoid these disasters.

How Then Should We Behave? Part 2

Intimacy in the Christian Marriage Part 1

Intimacy in the Christian Marriage Part 1

Intimacy in the Christian marriage must be a subject I get asked about most. There's a good reason for that. It is such a vital aspect of marriage and yet, the "older women" who were to teach the younger women how to love their husbands, and children have remained...

Who are you in the trials?

Who are you in the trials?

Trails always reveal to me who I am and how much more I need Christ. Some trials are enormous spiritual battles, and others are everyday moments demanding that my flesh dies, (I guess that's a pretty big spiritual battle too.)  In trials, I am reminded of John 16:33...

Growing in Grace

Growing in Grace

Growing in grace reminds me of my first gardening experience. I had never gardened before, but that didn't stop me from having dreams and expectations of a great harvest. I read every gardening magazine I could get my hands on through the winter months. I plotted my...

Worldview, Community, and Coffee

Worldview, Community, and Coffee

Can we change someone's worldview? Yes. Maybe. Kinda. Sorta. I sat in the line at the coffee shop this afternoon. Their espresso machine must be down again because the wait is longer than normal. Suddenly, I noticed that my truck started to rock from side to side, not...
